Teheran Tabu
Tehran Taboo
Three women in Tehran wrestle with misogyny and constraints based on religion. Pari works as a prostitute to feed herself and her son and is repeatedly confronted with the double standards of Iranian men. Donya needs money to have her hymen reconstructed and has become involved with a trafficker who procures "virgins". And Sara cracks under the pressure exerted by a husband who does not accept her desire for a life with a job and without children.
Shot using motion-capture technology and rotoscoping, Ali Soozandeh’s animated film openly addresses topics that are taboo in Iranian society. A strong script and the film’s thoughtful, captivating approach make it an engaging and topical political statement against the restriction of women’s rights in Iran. Nominated for a German Film Award, Ali N. Askin’s pulsating score intensifies the atmospheric quality of this film.
