Familie Brasch
The Brasch Family
Documentary about the Brasch family. Parents Horst and Gerda met in their London exile during WWII. In 1946, they moved to East Berlin to raise a family and fulfill their dream of a just and anti-fascist society. While Horst became a high-ranking party official and dedicated his life to communism, the artistically inclined Gerda never felt at home in the GDR. Their sons Thomas and Peter became writers, while third son Klaus pursued an acting career. All three opposed the GDR and thus their father's convictions which led to tremendous conflicts. In 1968, Horst Brasch even denounced his own son Thomas. Klaus Brasch died in 1980 at the age of 30, Thomas (*1945) and Peter (*1955) both passed away in 2001. They were survived by their sister Marion Brasch (*1961), a radio journalist and author. In 2012, she published a book about her family who are sometimes referred to as the "Manns of East Germany".
