Parchim International
A documentary about a highly unusual airport project: Parchim, a small town in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, has a defunct military airfield. Today, only rabbits run across the grass-covered landing strip, yet Chinese entrepreneur Jonathan Pang sees great potential in the area. He has bought the airport from Parchim County, aiming to turn it into a major hub for air cargo carriers. His bold vision includes a business center, a shopping mall, artificial mountains, hotels, hundreds of jobs – and of course a profit of billions. Alas, the energetic idealism of Mr. Pang meets the red tape of local bureaucracy: Although his negotiations with officials are often reminiscent of a Kafka novel, he is determined to make the East German province a hotspot of the world.
