Albert Schweitzer - Ein Leben für Afrika
When shortly after the end of the Second World War the Cold War began, the natural scientist Albert Schweitzer showed the world what humanity means in his jungle hospital in Lambarene, Gabun. With his philosophy of "reverence for life" he has since become one of the most admired people in the world. One day, he is contacted by Albert Einstein, who asks Schweitzer to warn humankind about the dangers of the atomic bomb. The US secret service consider this humanistic initiative an attack against the policies of the Western powers and Schweitzer is to be deliberately discredited with a smear campaign. Eventually they even threaten to close his hospital. Albert Schweitzer is forced to reconsider whether he should nevertheless stick to his commitment against the nuclear threat.
