Wir sind Papst! - Marktl am Inn
Marklt am Inn is a small town at the margins of Upper Bavaria that no one was really interested in. Until April 19, 2005, when cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was elected to be the new pope, because Marktl am Inn is the birthplace of Pope Benedict – and a pilgrimage site for countless faith tourists ever since. When clever business men tried to capitalize on this boom, the twon soon town served "Pope Beer", "Vatican bread", and "Ratzinger Bratwurst", but not always with the anticipated success. From the point in time of the pope’s election to the fall of 2006, the filmmakers observed the activities in the small town of 2800 residents who constantly have to try to keep a balance between faith and commerce.
