Peaceful Times
It is the year 1961. Although Irene Striesow is really comfortable living in the German Democratic Republic, her husband Dieter persuades her to flee the country together with their children. The couple could not be any more different. Irene is a passionately melancholic security freak who likes it when her whole family is sitting in their flat behind closed doors. Everyday, she prepares for a war that she thinks is oncoming. Dieter, on the other hand, wants to enjoy his life in West Germany, to meet people, and to spend as much time as possible outside the privacy of his home. These incompatible outlooks on life lead to a Cold War in the Striesow′s flat that is additionally intensified by their three children Ute, Flori, and Wasa, because the children know what would make their mother happy again: Dad has got to go.
