The fragmentary episodic film, whose original French subtitle translates to "Incomplete Narrative of Various Journeys," links the stories of various main characters: the young actress Anne is at the beginning of her film career, while her friend Georges, a war reporter, finds it increasingly difficult to return to civilian life; his brother Jean does not want to take over his father's farm. Maria, an illegal immigrant, is expelled from France but returns because she needs to finance her family in Romania. Finally, there is Amadou, a music teacher from Mali who teaches at a school for the deaf and dumb. A chance, rather insignificant event leads to a chain reaction of human entanglements.
