Das Kriegssofa
Before leaving Pillkallen in East Prussia for Berlin, Schnirpel hides the money he is saving for his daughter Marie in the cushions of his sofa. In his absence, Marie and her fiancé Karl stumble upon the savings. Karl takes the money to keep it safe and is soon drafted into the military when World War I breaks out.
While Marie flees to Königsberg to escape the advancing Russian troops, Schnirpel returns to Pillkallen to save his savings. When he arrives home, he is captured by the Russian soldiers who have occupied the area. Schnirpel manages to get hold of a Russian uniform, but soon German soldiers arrive in Pillkallen. Among them is Karl, who recognizes Schnirpel in the Russian uniform, but arrests him anyway as a Russian to teach him a lesson for his careless money hiding. When Marie returns, the three reconcile.
