Documentary film about the enormous and surprising diversity of species in the German forests. Over a period of six years, nature filmmaker Jan Haft and his cameraman Kay Ziesenhenne collected over 250 hours of footage. Their aim was to create a scientifically exact and at the same time magical and emotionally gripping inventory and description of the numerous life forms of our forests. Intimate behavioural observations of supposedly familiar species such as fox, wild boar and red deer are shown alongside atmospheric shots of bizarre forest dwellers such as aphids, liver mosses and red knot ants.
