Tomás Lunák was born in Gottwaldov (then Czechoslovakia) on August 30 1974. He studied animation at the Zlín film academy, and then enrolled at the FAMU film school in Prague. Following several shorts, he completed his first animated feature film in 2011: "Alois Nebel" (CZ/D) is an adaptation of a graphic novel and tells the story of a station master who is confronted with a dark chapter from his past. The film, which uses the rotoscoping technique, premiered at the 2011 Venice IFF and subsequently won the European Film Award for Best Animated Feature. "Alois Nebel" was theatrically released in Germany in December 2013.
