Biography

Regina Welker, born 1984 in Fürth, developed a passion for media work and filmmaking at an early age: As a student, she set up a local TV station (HeroTV) and made her first animated film for her graduation from high school. She then did an internship at the Bayerischer Rundfunk Fernsehen (Studio Franken, Nuremberg), where she continued working as a freelancer.   

From 2005 to 2011 Welker studied animation (directing) at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. Her diploma animation film "Krake" (2011), about children with cancer, was awarded the members prize at the Caligari Film Prize.   

From 2012 to 2015 she was a lecturer at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. She has also worked as an animation artist, co-director and producer on several short animated films, including contributions to the SWR series "Ich kenne ein Tier" (2012-2013, directed by Verena Fels). In 2013 she joined the animation filmmaking collective Woodblock.tv. Together with Nina Wels, Regina Welker began working on the animation film "Latte Igel und der magische Wasserstein" ("Latte and the Magic Waterstone") in 2017. The film was released in the winter of 2019.
