Biography

Daniel Rakete Siegel was born on July 29, 1980, in Cologne. He gained his first experience in filmmaking in 2002 as co-producer of the low-budget film "Minus zwei". That same year, he began studying Japanese Studies, Philosophy and German studies in Cologne, while working as a freelance graphic designer. In 2004, Siegel transferred to the International Film School Cologne (ifs), where he studied directing until 2007. His 27-minute graduation film "Ein Fall für KBBG", a parody of the youth book series "Ein Fall für TKKG", was shown at several international festivals.

After graduating, Siegel began working as a freelance filmmaker. Together with Christopher Becker, he wrote and directed the dramedy web series "Jabhook" from 2008 to 2010. In addition, Siegel has directed numerous commercials (including for Sixx and Telekom) and episodes of various series (including "Beste Schwestern"). He also participated in short films and commercials by other directors in various roles, such as editor.

In 2015, the sitcom "Im Knast", a six-part series developed by him, starring Denis Moschitto and Manuel Rubey, was broadcast to almost entirely positive reviews. A second season followed in 2017. Siegel directed a total of six of the twelve episodes. Between 2018 and 2021, he was one of the directors of the late night show "Neo Magazin Royale". From 2020, he directed several episodes of the crime series "WaPo Bodensee".

Together with Denis Moschitto, Daniel Rakete Siegel wrote and directed the thriller "Schock" ("Shock"), about a doctor (Moschitto) who becomes increasingly involved in the milieu of a seriously ill gangster. The premiere took place at the Munich Film Festival in 2023, the german theatrical release followed in February 2024.
