Sinan Akkus was born in Erzincan, Turkey on December 17th 1970. His family relocated to Germany in 1973, anf from 1992 on, he studied philosophy and German literature in Kassel. In addition to this, he enrolled at the "Hochschule der bildenden Künste" in 1994, majoring in film and television. Already working part-time in a production company for image films, he graduated in 2000.
In 2001, his short "Sevda heißt Liebe" was awarded the Murnau Short Film Prize. After acting stints in the comedy series "Stromberg" (2004) and a guest appearance alongside Christian Ulmen in "Dr. Psycho", Akkus started working on his first feature film as director: The ensemble comedy "Evet, ich will!" won the audience award at the 2008 Kinofest Lünen. After several more festival screenings (including Max Ophüls Preis), it got a wide release in October 2009.
Following acting turns in "Dear Courtney" (2012) and "Stromberg – Der Film" (2014), Akkus made his second feature as author and director: "3 Türken & 1 Baby" stars Kostja Ullmann, Kida Khodr Ramadan and Eko Fresh as three brothers who have to take care of a baby.
