Summary
The Immortal Heart
Nuremberg at the time of Albrecht Dürer and the famous geographer Martin Behaim: Peter Henlein, an art locksmith, is looking for a way to make rifle bullets more accurate by creating a new shape. Just as he is welding two round bullets together to form an elongated one, he discovers that his assistant Konrad is trying to steal it from him. A scuffle ensues, during which Henlein's new bullet hits him in the chest. The doctor, who does not suspect that there are two separated bullets in the body removes only one.
Although Henlein is troubled by the remaining bullet, which should be removed immediately, he decides to follow a sudden inspiration and build a spring-powered clock. He refuses a rescue operation and retreats to realize his idea. Only when he has completed the pocket watch, the "Nuremberg Egg," does he return to the city. He gives the clock to Behaim and dies peacefully, but not before giving Konrad and his wife his blessing for a future together.
