Monowi, Nebraska

Deutschland 2018/2019 Dokumentarfilm

Summary

Documentary film about Elsie Eiler, the only inhabitant of the small town Monowi in Nebraska, USA. At over 80, she runs the "Monowi Tavern", the centre of attraction for mostly farmers and craftsmen who come here to drink their coffee or the "coldest beer in town" - and in some cases drive over 50 miles through the sparsely populated area. Elsie, who is also the mayor and sheriff of her town and runs the library, issues her liquor license herself and has known the majority of her customers for half her life or longer. So Elsie is always busy and at the same time never lonely in the ghost town that surrounds her. The film not only portrays a place that fell out of time and its inhabitant, but also explores topics such as rural exodus and the feeling of home.
