The Strange Sound of Happiness
Documentary film about the history and meaning of the jew's harp. The filmmaker Diego Pascal Panarello comes from Sicily, where the Jew's Harp (called Marranzano there) has always been one of the classic folk instruments. Inspired by the personal realization that the special music of the Jew's Harp is a "sound of happiness" for him, Panarello embarks on a search for the origins of this peculiar instrument. His journey takes him to Yakutia, in the north-eastern part of Asian Russia, where the jew's harp is considered a lucky charm.
