Biography

Tonislav Hristov, born December 18, 1978 in Vratza, Bulgaria, studied at the Art School of Vratza and at the University of Ruse, Bulgaria. From 2005 on he studied directing at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland, and graduated in 2007. His autobiographically tinged, humorous documentary "Rules of Single Life" (FI/BG 2011), about four friends in search of Mrs. Right, was screened at several international festivals and received positive reviews.

"Soul Food Stories" (BG/FI 2013) deals with the connective effect of cooking in a multi-cultural Bulgarian village. The critically acclaimed documentary was screened at several festivals, including the Helsinki IFF and the Sofia IFF. His first film to be shown in German cinemas was the 2014 documentary "Love & Engineering", a portrayal of four single computer nerds trying to win the women's hearts by using a "love algorithm".
