Biography
Niclas Mehne, born 1985 in Göttingen, completed the One Year Filmmaking Program (2006/2007) at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. His graduation film "Valentine" was screened at the Los Angeles and San Francisco Short Film Festivals in 2009.
Prior to that, in 2008, Mehne began his bachelor's degree in directing at the University of Media and Communication (HMK) in Cologne, which he completed in 2011 with the 20-minute short film "Erinnern ausgeschlossen". This film was shown at several festivals in Germany, including the Max-Ophüls-Preis Film Festival 2013 and the Neisse Film Festival 2013.
Between 2012 and 2015, Mehne directed the documentary "The Constant Search" about the singer-songwriter Florian Ostertag. In the following years, he concentrated on music videos (e.g. for Ostertag), product videos and commercials.
From January 2019 to July 2021 Niclas Mehne shot his first feature film: "Schlussklappe", about the experiences of a young film crew at a renowned film festival in Saarbrücken. The film premiered at the Max-Ophüls-Preis Film Festival in early 2022. "Schlussklappe" won the audience award at the Grenzland-Filmtage Selb and the Filmfest Bremen, and Mehne received the NewComerComedy Director Award at the Ernst Lubitsch Prize. At the same time, he graduated from the University of Hildesheim with a master's degree in "Staging of Arts and Media" in 2023. The theatrical release of "Schlussklappe" took place in March 2024.
