Leonie Krippendorff began studying directing at the Film University Babelsberg (formerly the Film and Television Academy 'Konrad Wolf') in 2009. After graduating she became a master student of Prof. Andreas Kleinert in September 2015. Her feature-length graduation film "Looping", about the intensive relationship of three women in a psychiatric hospital, had its world premiere at the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival in January 2016 and was released in cinemas in August 2016.
In July 2018, Krippendorf began shooting her second feature film: "Kokon" ("Cocoon") is about a quiet teenager who learns to emancipate herself from her older sister and to trust her own feelings. The film premiered in February 2020 at the Berlinale in the Generation 14plus competition and was released in cinemas in April 2020. At Bayerischer Filmpreis, Lena Urzendowsky won the award for Best Newcomer Actress, Krippendorff for Best Newcomer Director.
