Biography

Denis Dercourt was born in Paris in 1964. He spent part of his youth living with German relatives near Stuttgart. At university he studied Music, Politics and Philosophy. From 1988 to 1993 he was the first solo violist with the Orchestre Symphonique Francais. From 1993 to 2012 he was a professor at the Conservatoire in Strasbourg. He is bilingual and has lived with his family in Berlin since 2010.

Dercourt came to international attention as a writer and director with the films "Demain, dès l'aube" and "The Page Turner", both of which were featured in the official program of the Cannes Film Festival. In 2007, the latter film had a very successful run in German cinemas under the title "Das Mädchen, das die Seiten umblättert". "A Pact" ("Zum Geburtstag") is his first German-language film.
