Summary
The Black Sheep
In his small Irish parish, Father Brown is not only known and loved as a priest. The clergyman is also passionate about criminology, not just in theory, but in practice - much to the displeasure of the church authorities.
When a man is found bludgeoned to death outside Brown's church, the murder awakens the priest's detective instincts. He even manages to track down the culprit, putting Brown on the front pages of the local newspapers. Furious, the bishop transfers Brown to a parish with no crime for years. But Father Brown seems to be drawn to crime, for shortly after his arrival, the local banker is murdered. Seemingly no one in the village has a motive, and the police are in the dark. At first, the sharp-witted Brown stays out of the case. But then another murder occurs. Father Brown's friend Flambeau, a reformed burglar, becomes a suspect. Now the father feels compelled to intervene again.
